DIY Surfboard Rack

Build a board rack with us from wood offcuts!

For this project, we collected wood offcuts from our local carpenter (and neighbour!) to build our own board rack.

Here are all the tools and materials we used:

  1. Wood offcuts for 1 back panel (ours was roughly 60 x 5 x 2 cm, but we’d recommend a thicker piece if possible, as ours ended up cracking!) and 5 front panels (30 x 5 x 2 cm). We chose a rack to fit 4 boards, but this can be adjusted depending on preference. The carpenter kindly cut the pieces for us, but if you are doing this step on your own you will need a saw!
  2. Angle grinder with sanding disc
  3. Measuring tape
  4. Pencil
  5. Electric screwdriver with interchangeable bits
  6. Wood screws (2 per front panel)
  7. Wood stain
  8. Sponge
  9. Spirit level
  10. Wall plugs (we used 2) with matching long screws
  11. 2 hooks/screws for securing the rope
  12. Rope (ours was 2.5m in length, looped twice, and secured with a European death knot). We screwed this firmly on one side and hooked it onto the screw on the other side.
  13. Optional – a log base to prevent dings!
